New Noise of New York Nightlife

Versatile DJ Journey Finds a Way to Stand Out in City of Originals

Rules to keeping a Manhattan club crowd happy: One, remember to play plenty of   Jay Z, MIA and Beyonce. Two, don’t forget to throw in old school beats by artists like Mos Def and Gang Starr. Three, pay tribute to legends like Biggie and Tupac.  Finally, end the night with never fail hits by Madonna and groups like the Killers.

Follow this method, take requests, and you might live to see another night behind NY club turntables. Try getting creative with your “own” style and those daredevil ways may leave your crowd confused and you gig-less.

Now picture this; an LA based DJ who likes being creative, original & daring in the swanky New York night scene, dead in the water right? WRONG!

Ask DJ Journey how he copes with the tough New York crowd on a weekend night. His answer is simple & methodical; you break down the music barriers. “When club-goers enter a venue, they already know what they expect to hear and what songs will make people get down, and sing along. It’s engrained in their mind and so they think that’s all they should hear. It doesn’t mean they don’t like to listen or dance to other music, they just aren’t used to it”.

But hold on people, don’t get images in your head of this DJ playing Lil Wayne and then suddenly switching to a Def Leppard track with no transition. It’s not like that. But it is the idea of combining multiple genres of music throughout a four hour set, carefully blending one track into another, and adding additional beats with superb scratching abilities, all while keeping the crowd happy.  Might we add, this may even keep the crowd pleasantly surprised.

This is a technique that DJ Journey says is anything but foreign to him, but does admit in the past few months he’s been more loyal to it than ever.

“In Chicago, where I began my career, I played in everything from House Venues to Reggae clubs. It was those in between mainstream places were I really got to work on the craft of being versatile during one set. I’m known to do this kind of stuff in LA too, but NYC is more competitive than ever and now I’m really working on mastering a signature style, a style that stands apart from the rest.

Side by side with his New York City promoter, Otto Ade, the duo is making their presence known everywhere from upscale lounges in midtown to trendy clubs in the Meat Packing District.  Both Chicago natives, these “outside of the box” thinkers believe that while although taking chances with music can be risky it’s the only way to go.

“It’s true switching the routine partiers are used to hearing could get messy. But doing what everyone else does never got anybody anywhere. And this is my style, and it seems to be working” And with venues like Hiro, Imperial, Katra and Butter all requesting him back, DJ Journey has no plans on switching up his style.

Catch DJ Journey on New Years Eve 2008 at Butter Lounge. And yes he will be playing all your favorite beats, he’ll  just put his own twist on it.

Dj JOURNEY BACK IN THE BIG APPLE @ IMPERIAL & HIRO

Dj Journey Weekend Wrap Up NYC

NYCWEEKENDWRAPUP.jpg picture by DjJourney007

Attention party-goers and music lovers..... if you plan on stepping into any club this weekend, make sure you hit the place with the best bi-coastal
DJ out there.

Mix-master and DJ extraordinaire, DJ Journey will be taking on two of Manhattan's hottest spots this Friday and Saturday Night.

Imperial, the new art-themed Flatiron District club with amazing visuals and an insane sound system will host multi-faceted DJ Journey. Fresh off DJing a string of dope events in Los Angeles, Journey will bring his eclectic style and sick spinning skills to a club that will appreciate all he has to offer. Complete with 30 foot high ceilings, three cinematic TV screens and wood dance floors, Imperial is aesthetically pleasing, yet unlike anything else Manhattan has to offer. Filled with various graffiti artist's work and an unpretentious vibe, this is the perfect venue for for you to see the unique turntablist DJ Journey bring his beats.

After you recover from your crazy Friday night, show up at Hiro Club on Saturday to hear more great music with DJ Journey. As many DJ Journey fans know, this is the memorable spot where Journey got his first opportunity to show NYC what he's all about. In September this DJ took to the turntables at this packed venue and kept the crowd dancing until 4am. His unique style and everlasting energy kept the crowd pleased and the promoters eager to bring him back.  So the kid is here again and ready to rock this upscale dual level nightclub, completed with gymnasts hanging from the ceiling.

Be sure to come out, get your dance on, and show DJ Journey some NY love.

NYC Nightlife Goes Green!

DJ Journey is loving NYC and the gigs he is recently getting in the amazing city, but now he has reason to love it even more. A few weeks ago NYC opened it's first Eco-Friendly Club on Varick street. DJ Journey and the crew had been hearing the buzz about this club for a few months but we are all super excited it is finally here! This 6,000 square foot space is the first to seek LEED certification for Green in Manhattan. Some of the cool features are waterless urinals, LED Light bulbs, organic vodka and bamboo walls. According to an article by The Post, the goal of Greenhouse is to encourage clubgoers to party in an eco-friendly way, without having to think about the issues that go along with being green. The Daily Green said if Greenhouse is a success that new Greenhouse venues will open across the US. We are all very excited about this great addition to NYC nightlife, and no-one is more excited than the green DJ himself, DJ Journey. We all know this this guy goes after what he wants, and this DJ with a cause says he will work towards getting a shot to hit the turntables at this exclusive venue! Keep an eye out for DJ Journey in Greenovate in the near future!

Peace,
Laura

DJ Journey Shops Eco-Friendly At Buffalo Exchange Again!

We said he was busy in NYC and one thing that kept this DJ out and about was shopping for some gear to rock at his high profile gigs!
Journey showed up at one of his favorite NY shopping spots, Buffalo Exchange in Brooklyn and as usual..... walked out with some hot stuff, all while keeping it eco-friendly! The DJ left with some cool vests, shirts and even a pair of boots! He said he's rocking them out in LA right now!
So remember you don't have break the bank or hurt the environment to look HOT! Just look at this "dressed to impress" DJ who admits a large portion of his wardrobe comes from vintage shops thrift shops and trade shops like Buffalo. So if you have some nice things hanging in your closet, that you know you are never going to wear again, bring it in to places like Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads in LA, sell it for cash or credit and then pick up something new at the shop!

Peace

MACBOOK GOES GREEN!

Hello everyone!

We know it's been way to long but DJ Journey has been VERY busy! He just left to go back to LA after a very productive stay in NY where he DJ'd an awesome Halloween Party at Tavern on The Green and some other cool spots like the super sexy lounge, Sutra. We wanted to let you know we will be putting up some cool pics and video blogs later today and throughout the week.

For now we wanted to update all you entertainment people can't live without your Mac Computers!

Titled "The Greatest MacBook Ever" on it's website, this new Mac is a great environmental breakthrough! Mac says the hard drive spins down on its own when it's not being used. Other cool adjustments include a processor that throttles down to save power between keystrokes when typing and a displayer that's dims when you go in a darkened room.
When it’s turned on, the new MacBook uses one quarter the power of a single light bulb!

This computer has met the low power requirements put in place by the EPA and the US Dept of Energy, which gives it the Energy Star Certification!

Mac also says that because the MacBook is make from aluminum and glass, almost every part of it is recyclable!

DJ Journey was so inspired he is going out to purchase this computer ASAP!

Check out this super cool computer at the link below

DJ JOURNEY DOES THE AIDS WALK

PARTICPANTS AND SUPPORTERS:
Continue to feel the burn as DJ Journey heats things up at the after-party spinning his signature mash-ups and dance music!

Well known for passion and efforts to build a greener world, DJ Journey is branching out and putting a new spin on how he helps humanity. This Sunday musical philanthropist and self titled “DJ With A Cause” will demonstrate more than just his mixing/scratching skills as he participates in a 6 plus mile walk to help raise money for the AIDS foundation.

The event, which takes place this Sunday, October 19th will include about 30,000 people who will show their support for fighting AIDS by taking to the streets in West Hollywood for AIDS Walk Los Angeles. DJ Journey will be walking with celebrity personality B. Scott, who will lead “Team Love Muffins”. Since the mid 80’s this walk has raised almost $60 million for HIV programs and services throughout Los Angeles County and has made its mark as one of the largest AIDS fundraising events in the US. Last year the walk broke records by raising close to $ 4 million for AIDS Project Los Angeles and various other AIDS service organizations.

But the efforts don’t end at the finish line. After the race B. Scott will host the AIDS walk after party at Eleven Restaurant & Nightclub. Here a silent auction and raffle will be held to benefit the AIDS walk. Participants and friends will enjoy free food and mimosas in the VIP area as well as access to live performances by various artists including Steph Jones, Warrior Nation, and DJ Shy. And of course a party wouldn’t’ be a party without DJ Journey, who will take to the tables at this awesome event.
With his hip-hop, electro mash-ups and on point energy, this DJ is sure to keep the crowd on their feet…..even after a 6 mile walk!

See & You Should Believe

The DJ and I were just reading an article from CNN. It is an excerpt from "What Matters". This is the latest book by "Day in the Life" series creator David Elliot Cohen. If you click on the slide show you will see a number of visuals, both beautiful and sad at the same time. You can see what is left of once giant ice-caps and glaciers, which now look like they have been reduced to small snow patches across green land. There are also powerful shots of white smoke rising in the air, the result of rapid coal burning, being released into China and America's atmosphere.

But along with these images are those that can give everyone some hope. You can see wind turbines, doing there job, producing clean, efficient energy. There are pictures of eager people rallying to stand up to global warming and fight for our planet's future. But this is a rally like no other. In the article it is stated that our "greatest Climatologist", James Hansen, said we have eight more years to reverse the flow of carbon into our atmopshere, or it's too late. And what does too late mean? Well a 25 foot rise in sea level is one part of the answer. I'm sure most of you don't want to imagine what that will be like, so right now we all need to put our heads together and start seeing and imagining our planet and our lives in a new light. We have the technology to make this thought a reality, so let's all work together to make this happen.

You guys need to read this article, and watch these images. It really will inspire.

Peace
L

BUFFALO EXCHANGE=ECO-FRIENDLY SOLUTION TO GREAT STYLE AND WARDROBE!

Looking fresh and hot is important even to the most eco-friendly of people.

Journey attends countless red-carpet events and spins a various top venues across the country. This means TONS of photos, and one thing DJ Journey doesn't want is to be caught wearing the SAME THING over and over again! But buying a new outfit for every occassion isn't very green. SO WHAT'S A DJ TO DO?

Journey's solution is hit up great thift stores and vintage shops to get quality clothing and keep his eco-footprint low! Journey's favorite new york spot is Brooklyn's Buffalo Exchange where the DJ says he finds the best name brands for DOPE prices! And the DJ with a cause feels great about his purchase because the clothing he's buying has already been worn and is now passed down!! If you don't know about Buffalo Exchange you have to find out, so check it out here!

Check out DJ Journey's last experience below and expect a future video because this DJ will be back in NYC very soon!

Vice Presidential Candidates and the Climate Question

If you don't understand what the cause of a problem or issue is, finding a solution is not possible. Paraphrased, these are the words of Senator Joe Biden as he responds to Sarah Palin's remarks that she doesn't want to argue what caused climate change and would rather focus on how to "positively affect the impacts".

DJ Journey and his Eco friendly crew were glad that Senator Biden made this statement because it was the exact same thing we were thinking when Governor Palin made similiar remarks in her earlier interview with Katie Couric! For many of us environmentally conscious people it probably makes sense to understand the roots of the problem (with the environment) in order to fix it!

According to Palin we must also consider "cyclical patterns" when talking about the earth's temperature changes. WHAT?! Most scientists agree now that the rising global temperature is a man made issue.

Biden goes on to point out that over the last decade and a half Senator McCain has voted 20 TIMES AGAINST FUNDING ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF ENERGY! He says these include wind, solar and bio-fuels. Palin came back with statements of how we must learn to rely on domestic oil not foreign and said "with new technology and tiny footprints on land it is safe to drill and we need to do that". She even corrected Biden when he said McCains camps only answer is drill, drill, drill by saying "The chant is drill baby drill".

We think when it came to this topic Biden had the facts, statistics and information to hold his own...When it came to Palin...not so much.

But judge for yourself! Watch below!

WARNING: This is Sad!

Ok, so we do like the idea of keeping our "go green" positive and full of good energy, but we can't help but at least mention this whole Sarah Palin wolf ad video!

Right now there is a You Tube video out there showing very graphic footage of wolves shot and killed accompanied by a narrator who states "As Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin actively promotes the brutal and unethical aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife". The ad is done byThe Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund and is said to be gaining visibility across the country. At firs the ad was only shown in certain markets including Florida, Michigan and Ohio, but now Colorado, Virginia and Wisconsin will have the opportunity to see this cruel, yet incredibly important visual!

According to an article by the AP, Palin is in favor of the hunting of wolves in Alaska as a part of a state-sponsored-preditor-control program which seeks to increase the number of moose and caribou in certain areas of the states. People living in rural areas who hunted to survive argued that there wasn't enough game. Palin did not not enact this program, it began with the Governor before her, Frank Murkowski, but continues with Palin's full support. The article states since the program began five years ago that more than 700 wolves have been killed.

If you haven't seen it yet, you should. ( we have posted it below) Although sad, we believe it is important to know politicians stances on environmental and animal issues!

Peace, L

RECYCLE THE BEAT

Hey Everyone:

Just wanted to stop by and let you all know about a new feature that will be part of DJ Journey's "DJ with A Cause" blog. It's called Recycle The Beat and its DOPE. Staying on topic with our desire to reuse and recycle DJ Journey is going to be remixing....you guessed it...BEATS! He'll take old school hits, classics from the 60's and every other important era and put that new school spin on it.
Want to get involved? Send us suggestions and if you're really feeling confident show us what you got and send us some of your own remixes. We are currently developing relations with various Green organizations and hopefully will soon be sponsored by many. When this takes affect we will hold contests (music and green related) and hand out "green prizes" to the winners!

Thanks for stopping by!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle=3 R's that sound Right

When I was first heard this song catchy song by Jack Johnson I had two questions: Who is this artist and why haven't I heard this song yet?!

The Song "3 R's" by Jack Johnson, a Hawaii born singer/songwriter/surfer/ is all about being green, hence the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle line used throughout the song. Jack's love for the environment have led him and his wife to create the the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. This nonprofit organization specializes in protecting and preserving the environment through grade-school environmental awareness programs. The program donates materials and resources needed so that teachers can inform their students about environmental issues. The program also focuses on creating healthier lunch programs, recycling programs and teaching students about the importance of alternative energy.

While surfing the net for the official video, I saw several creatively crafted videos done by young teenagers and was impressed! This song is really making an impact!
Check Jack out at http://video.aol.com/video/the-3-rs/1462571

Just to let you know this song inspired our "DJ with a Cause" DJ Journey in a big Way. So stay tuned for DJ Journey to do what he does best....remix the song!

Peace
